Moved by the children left behind in the wake of the Chernobyl disaster, a group of Los Angeles volunteers came together in 1991 with a simple promise: send help. They began collecting medicine, winter coats and toys, and packing them into ocean containers bound for Ukraine.
Over the past 25 years, that promise has grown roots at home, too — through partnerships with community organizations in Los Angeles, Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, Massachusetts and Ohio.
